Anduki Recreation Park
This park was built by Brunei Shell Petroleum in 1992. You may enjoy boating on the lake, picnicking or just walking through the pathways to enjoy nature. This is located about 10 minutes drive north east of Seria, and is well marked. Take the by-pass and turn left for Anduki. The park is about 500 metres from the turnoff.
Kuala Balai
If you want a taste of tradition Kuala Balai is the place to go. This small historical kampong is located in the jungles just near Kuala Belait. This tiny village was once dependent on natural produce. You can get there by boat, (from the KB boat jetty) which is a delightful 45 minute river journey; or by road, but be careful to avoid wet times, as the road is often submerged! There is now a traditional home for ‘tourists’ to experience, which frequently has dancing, night stays and crafts.

Labi Recreation Park
The park is located approximately 5 kilometres along Labi Road. It is well signed posted and has good parking (with the exception of Sunday).
The park consists of many interlinked boardwalks over the lake with lovely picnic shelters. There are some walks along the lake but these are a little rough. A great place to go for a picnic, day trip or just to relax and read a book or two. |
Sungai Liang
The Sungai Liang recreational Park was built in the late 80’s, and was the first recreation park of its type in Brunei. It covers 14 hectares of forest and has great trails to follow. It is a popular spot for people who like to go walking through the jungle or for those who simply enjoy a nice picnic environment. There are hanging bridges to step across, and great wildlife to be seen including gibbons, squirrels, macaque monkeys, and even lemurs.

Beaches
Mostly disappointing because of driftwood. General advice is the further from KB the cleaner. One of the lesser-known beaches can be found opposite the Labi Road turning on a small metalled road called ‘Jalan Pantai Sungai Liang’ which leads to the JKR beach and recreation park. A good spot for picnics because of the trees growing up to the sand. The beaches at Lumut and Anduki are worth a trip too. Just remember to always cover-up as the sand flies are ruthless!!!!!
Natural History
Being less disturbed by humans, oil installations become part of the ‘safe environment’ for birds and this is a good place for the binoculars. The Seria Estuary is an internationally important area for winter migrants. The area is on the flight path from Asia and Russia to the Southern Continent. There are two hides near Seria for Panaga members. Their Natural History Section is very welcoming and organises film evenings: interest groups include astronomy, photography, bird counts.
River Adventures
Boat trips up the Belait River are popular at weekends. First port of call is often the Skull House at Kg Kuala Balai (although most of these have been stolen). The further you go, the more adventurous you must be. For trips to Kampongs, most would drive up to Labi road and rejoin the river at Kg Sawat, saving a four hour river trip from KB itself (but missing the Skull House and the Sago Factory). There is an interesting Iban Longhouse at Kampong Apak-Apak, three hours up river from Kampong Sawat. As a teacher, you can get to know which pupils live up river and go home at weekends in Dad’s boat.
Sea View Hotel & Resort
The Sea View Hotel is on Jalan Maulana opposite Jalan Pandan Lima. It has a karaoke room, and high tea at 5pm for light meals and snacks or just drinks. The pool can be used for a small membership fee. They also have set lunches open to all. These are 3 or 4 course lunches at less than $10.00. The board outside the front entrance shows the menu for the day/week.
